Books have been written on this matter, and the contention and feuds about where the "hot" slots are located in the casino are still happening - over sixty yrs after the slot machines were 1st placed in gambling houses.

The quintessential rule is that the most favorable slot machines were positioned just inside the entrance of the casino; so that casino fanatics passing by would see real jackpot winners ... be baited to come inside and play. Our belief is that this is no longer true.
