An Introduction to The Slots

video Slots are possibly the most famous games to wager on at casinos. On any given night, count on most of the machines to be packed with eager gamblers. They come in a variety of playing levels; some only cost $.05 a spin and others can cost upwards of $20 a play. Although slots are a gambling tool, many people are intimidated by the big money card tables and like the delight and exhilaration of an excellent one arm bandit.

The 1st mechanical slot machine was created in 1895 and was dubbed the "Liberty Bell." Created by a California machinist, the initial slot games had three spinning reels with a cracked Liberty Bell, diamonds, hearts, and spades painted on each. Prior to this invention, the phrase "slot machines" was used to describe various kinds of vending machines.

The first real across the board use of slot machines in American betting houses is attributed to the Flamingo Hotel, Vegas somewhere around the 40's. The administrator of the betting house had initially thought the machines would be great to fascinate tired wives of a few of the biggest high roller customers of the betting house. Little did he know that slot machines would be an exciting activity for nearly everyone and that the enticement would extend further than the tired wives. Now, it is said, slots make up over 2/3rds of all revenue brought in by U.S. brick and mortar casinos.

The slots beyond a doubt have a rich history. From the small creation of the late-1800's to the billion dollar industry of today, slot machines will continue to expand in prominence.
